Is the Chi hair straightener good or bad?
I want to buy the Chi hair straightener but I keep reading bad and good reviews about it. Does it really catch on fire, and completely breaks down after a couple of months or does it last for a long time and works very well.

That said, if your hair isn't curly and you're not in that much of a hurry, I don't really think it's necessary, especially since they're expensive. I use a cheap $25 one and my hair is wavy…works fine for me, takes like 10 minutes. 2 years ago 0 Rating: Good Answer 0 Rating: Bad Answer Report Abuse by emjay Member since: July 06, 2006 Total points: 8277 (Level 5) Add to My Contacts Block User Yes I love mine! I look for one that gets good reviews on how long it lasts. all flat irons get hot and straighten your hair, they all damage you hair. I'm not going to pay more money for anything that can still damage my hair. I recently got a new one from walmart for $14 and it works great plus I can use it to curl my hair like many people like about the chi irons. 2 years ago 0 Rating: Good Answer 0 Rating: Bad Answer Report Abuse by Kerri Member since: April 05, 2007 Total points: 478 (Level 2) Add to My Contacts Block User no they break so quickly 2 years ago 0 Rating: Good Answer 0 Rating: Bad Answer Report Abuse by way_iba Member since: November 21, 2007 Total points: 1291 (Level 3) Add to My Contacts Block User it's the best!!! 2 years ago 0 Rating: Good Answer 0 Rating: Bad Answer Report Abuse by pimp Member since: March 04, 2008 Total points: 231 (Level 1) Add to My Contacts Block User yes there the best brand - you can find them at a local ULTA cosmetics store 2 years ago 0 Rating: Good Answer 0 Rating: Bad Answer Report Abuse by NIGEL R Member since: December 18, 2006 Total points: 62591 (Level 7) Add to My Contacts Block User so they say i have t3's at the moment be thinking of getting after….. 2 years ago 0 Rating: Good Answer 0 Rating: Bad Answer Report Abuse by Milana Member since: February 08, 2007 Total points: 1199 (Level 3) Add to My Contacts Block User yea it'e great and it dose not fry your hair contrary to what some other girl said its a great product 2 years ago 0 Rating: Good Answer 0 Rating: Bad Answer Report Abuse by AManda Member since: June 09, 2007 Total points: 5689 (Level 5) Add to My Contacts Block User It is a good brand, as it will straighten your hair; however, it will FRY your hair. So, should I buy one or get a different kind? Do they work that well??? Or do they break soon after you get it? 3 years ago Report Abuse by iheartje… Member since: July 25, 2007 Total points: 606 (Level 2) Add to My Contacts Block User Best Answer - Chosen by Asker The CHI is amazing! All of my friends have them, and they can straighten my hair so fast. (I have super curly, frizzy hair!) The reason is because it gets incredibly hot, so you don't have to use as much pressure when pulling. This is better for your hair because you aren't breaking it off. I personally have an infre-red ceramic plated straighener, that was quite a price. It recently broke…but for about two years it was really really good. Just as good as the chi. The chi is just a bettter investment. Hope this helps!edit: two of my friends have had their chi for over 4 years. it DOES last. Add to My Contacts Block User Best Answer - Chosen by Voters I personally believe that the other CHI models are a complete waste of money because the original is fantastic! I have had my for 2 years, and never had a problem…and I drop it all the time. What's nice about the CHI is that is can keep even the most stubborn of hair straight all day. If it does break, you can send it back in to the manufacturer and they will fix it or replace it for only $15 (as long as you keep the box). The second best CHI model is the Wet to Dry one. Your hair dries instantly! The original CHI runs about $149 and the Wet to Dry is about $199. The best sales on the CHI are at JcPenney, in fact on December 9th they go on sale for 20% off, and I can email you a coupon for an additional 20% off of anything in the salon.

Add to My Contacts Block User Dollar for dollar, the original CHI has to be one of the best ones out there. I personally have a Sedu (got it as a gift last Christmas). I have 2 younger nieces who share an Original CHI. They have had theirs for over a year now. They decided to buy one after having burned out 2 cheapie models that they got at a drugstore.

That being said, there are some advances with the newer models. The Turbo models have a variable temperature setting. This means you can dial in the perfect temp for your hair type. If you have normal hair than this is not a big deal, but if you have fine or damaged hair, you will want to start off on the lower temperature settings.

The nano is a strange one. It gets its name from nano technology. There is something special in the plastic housing that prevents bacteria from growing on it. Unless you work in a salon or germs are a concern, then its usually not a big deal. Also, the nano also comes in a digital model that means you can control the temp very precisely.

The original, turbo and nano all have a 10 foot power cord that swivels 360 degrees. This helps prevent damage to the power cord and can make it easier to use (especially at the back of your head).

All in all, at $80 the original CHI is quite a deal. The turbo goes for $110 and the nano starts at $130 I think. I would say pick your price range and go for one. They do amazing results.

Add to My Contacts Block User Well in my opinion the original CHI is the best. I am a stylist and I have owned mine for about 7 years. I have ordered the new ones for my clients and there always seems to be something going wrong with them. I love my CHI!!!!

Add to My Contacts Block User Hello, in reply to your question:

Is the original CHI the best? or are the Turbo, or Nano ones better?

GHD are by far the best as a product although if not used correctly there are all bad, if you use a straightener regularly you will damage your hair, it will seal the cuticles (fibres) along your hair shaft, long term you will find your hair board stiff like.

You will find a lot of breakage small or short hair’s sticking up.

Try this look in the mirror with good lighting and you will see lots of short hairs, we hairdressers call it breakage and it takes years to fix.

Unfortunately fashion rules although style last forever.

Here is a thought, just because models with size 4 figures can wear hipsters doesn’t mean that it looks good on size 12, 14,16 etc.

Same goes for your hair just because a lot of girls can wear it doesn’t mean it suites every girl, you need to take face shapes, body shapes and personalties into account.

With all that said women will do what their want regardless if it stuffs their hair. And then will complain about the cost to fix it.

                                      Best Wishes

Add to My Contacts Block User Best Answer - Chosen by Voters I personally believe that the other CHI models are a complete waste of money because the original is fantastic! I have had my for 2 years, and never had a problem…and I drop it all the time. What’s nice about the CHI is that is can keep even the most stubborn of hair straight all day.

Is my Chi hair straightener broken?
I’m from America and I bought a Chi Hair Straightener. I am studying abroad in England for 3 months and brought the straightener with me to us. I asked the people who work at the school about adaptors and converters and they told me how to properly plug it in. However, while using it, the straightener started to smoke and stopped working. I heard the wiring was bad at the school. What I am asking is, will it work when I get back to the states or am I S.O.L.?

Is my CHI hair straightener authentic?
My hasband bought me a Chi from Target for $130. I read somewhere that the real Chi has a 3 prong plug, but mine only has the regular 2. It also has GLOBAL BEAUTY NETWORK, INC. writting on the top. How can I tell if it is real?
